Lancaster wins in Promoter of the Year and Best Website categories

The recent resurgence of Lancaster National Speedway and Dragway was recognized this week by the motorsports website Speed51.com's annual awards known as "The 51's".

Lancaster National Speedway Track President Tim Packman received the Promoter of the Year award in just his first season in the position. The facility experienced continued growth in 2016 under Packman's leadership, with additional facility improvements, increased car and fan counts and new events added to the schedule. Packman was chosen out of a group of 20 nominees from around the country.

The official speedway website (www. lancasternationalspeedway.com) was selected as the Best Track/Series Website of 2016. Lancaster's internet home was chosen over the websites of some of the biggest short track racing series in the country, including the World of Outlaws, USAC, the Lucas Oil Late Model Series and NASCAR's Home Track website.

"Being nominated in as many categories as we were was an honor in itself," Packman said. "We were in with some big names and series on that list. These are great victories for Lancaster and we appreciate everybody voting."

Lancaster was also recognized in the Photo of the Year category as a picture of Dave Rigan's crash during the Ol' Boy Cup 60 last June won the award. The photo, taken by Duane Canfield, captured Rigan's Modified in mid-air after impacting the Thermal Foam blocks in Turn 3. The picture is a demonstration of how the expandable polystyrene soft walls produced by Thermal Foams protects Lancaster's drivers in a crash. Rigan was uninjured in the crash.

In addition, Lancaster National Speedway track announcer Dave Buchanan finished third in the final voting for the Short Track Announcer of the Year category. Buchanan began his announcing career at Lancaster in 1996 when he was 14 years old. It was the first time he was nominated for the honor.

Several drivers that competed at Lancaster during the 2016 season were nominated in various categories as well. Former track champion Andy Jankowiak won the Best Personality category for his positive attitude, willingness to connect with fans and his colorful social media posts that document his travels on the Modified circuit.

Lancaster National Speedway and Dragway is busy preparing for the 2017 racing season. The stock car season opener is scheduled for Saturday, April 22. The Franco's Pizza IHRA Drag Racing season begins with test and tune on Friday, April 28 and the first points race is scheduled for Friday, May 5.
