Lee USA Speedway continued to showcase touring series racing action as the second event of the 2017 racing season went into the record books on Sunday afternoon at New Hampshire’s Center of Speed, despite intermittent showers that hindered efforts to get the program in.

The Granite State Pro Stock Series, New England Pro-4 Modifieds, and Northeast Classic Lites all took part in the program, with everyone getting the full show in except the GSPSS, whose race was abbreviated by some 20 laps when the rains finally won out.

Once they got the race underway, Tamworth’s Jeremy Davis was the class of the field in the Granite State Pro Stock Series main event, taking the lead in the early going and moving out to a several car length lead as the laps quickly clicked off.

When they reached halfway through the scheduled 100 lap distance, Davis continued to lead, with Newmarket’s Bryan Kruczek, David Darling of Seekonk, MA, Luke Hinckley of Claremont, and Derry’s Joe Squeglia filling out the top five as the crossed flags were shown to the field.

Squeglia knocked off Hinckley on lap 57 to grab fourth, and continued his march toward the front, finally slipping past Darling several laps later to move into third. Up front, Davis continued to lead with Kruczek running a strong second with 20 to go, but that’s when Kruczek’s day took a turn for the worse.

Heading into turn one, the longtime Lee campaigner lost traction and slammed hard into the retaining wall, destroying both ends of his car in the crash. During the caution period that ensued, rain moved in once again and caused the race to be declared complete, reverting to the running order from the last completed lap which became the final finishing tally.

With that, Davis made yet another visit to the Lee winner’s circle and collected the $2,000 payday and a guaranteed starting spot in the big US Pro Stock/Super Late Model National Championship event to be held at the Seekonk (MA) Speedway on July 12. Kruczek ended his day with a wrecked racecar and second place trophy, with Squeglia rounding out the podium with a solid third place run.

The Pro-4 Modifieds made their first appearance of the year, with third-generation racer Brett Meservey getting to the lead early and often. Although Meservey led the most laps, it was Dave Berghman who led the one that counted, making a late-race pass that secured him a trip to victory lane.

Berghman is no stranger to the winner’s circle at Lee, having stopped there several years back when he was campaigning a full-sized Modified. Fellow second-generation racer Norm Wrenn III, who scored his first career Lee checker last season, came home in the runner-up slot, with Doug Meservey, Jr. taking down third. Allan Rieser, Jr. grabbed the Pro-4 Lites win over Steve Dumas.

The Northeast Classic Lites were back in town for the second straight week, and this time it was 2016 champion Duane Skofield getting the job done and taking down the win. Eric Skofield finished in the runner-up sot, with former Lee USA Ironman champion Tom “Hulk” Harton rounding out the podium in third.

Things go dark at Lee USA Speedway for the next two weekends, as preparations continue for the weekly NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Friday night opener scheduled for May 19. Don’t miss the action as The Rodfather-sponsored Supermodifieds, R&R The Tool Store and More Late Model Sportsmen, David’s Race Cars and Components Hobby Stocks, Tri-City Line-X Ironman, and MLM Diagnostics Pure Stocks open their 2017 championship chases.
