The 63rd annual season kicked off last Friday at Spencer Speedway. Forty-two cars participated in the annual Test & Tune session, which was cut short by intermittent rain showers throughout the evening.
Everyone was able to participate in four rounds of practice sessions that took to the half mile speedway starting at 5:30 pm. The first signs of rain came just after the practice session started and as the Sunoco Modifieds took to the track.
The first of three yellow flew just after that for the #87 SuperStock of Mike Hyman, who spun exiting the fourth turn, down the front straightaway.
Round two also saw a yellow when the SuperStock of Kenny Atkins looped around between the third and fourth turns. Atkins would duplicate that same spin in round three also. A brief halt in the action came around 6;45 pm due to increased rains. Enough cars came and ran the track in so practice could continue.
The fastest time of the night went to Daryl Lewis in his RoC Modified. Lewis turned in a lap of 19.46 seconds, 92.497 mph on the flat half mile.
The official NASCAR racing season kicks off this Friday, May 19th, with a complete program of Sunoco Modifieds, Super Sixes and Grandpa Dog 4-cylinders. Racing begins at 7:15 pm sharp.
Spencer Speedway is located just fifteen minutes east of Rochester, NY, along Route 104 in the Town of Williamson. Spencer Speedway is the local “NASCAR Place to Race” for Central New York in 2017. Points earned each week at Spencer are counted as part of the national NASCAR Whelen All-American Point Chase.
