It’s one thing to race well when everything’s going your way. It’s a different matter to fight back from adversity into the Winner’s Circle – and that’s just what Tim Brown of Tobaccoville did Saturday night at Bowman Gray
Stadium.
One week earlier, Brown claimed the checkered in the first Modified race – only to turn around and wreck during the first lap of the second race. “We tore it up as bad as I’ve ever torn one up over here,” said Brown about the massive damage done to his car.
Brown and his crew went to work immediately on Saturday night, tearing the car down and coming up with a plan for repair. After a long, exhausting week, Brown returned to compete on Saturday.
Apparently, the work done in the garage was effective. Brown qualified on the pole for the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series, led every lap of the first race, and took the checkered.
“I’m so blessed and proud to be a part of this deal to where you can wreck that bad, take the same race car, put it back together, sit on the pole, and win,” said Brown. “It’s really hard to win – it’s hard to beat Burt, Jason, Lee, and all the other guys who are fast. And
to do it two weeks in a row, I’m blessed to have all the right people around me.”
Jason Myers of Walnut Cove finished right behind Brown in second, with James Civali of Davidson taking third.
The “Madhouse Scramble” had Daniel Yates of Lexington and Michael Clifton of Walkertown fighting for the lead. Yates was gunning for his first Modified win ever, while Clifton was hoping to break a long winless streak.
Clifton was able to make the slip past Yates to secure the lead. “He went down in the corner and slowed down getting in, and I gave him a little shot,” said Clifton about passing Yates. “He went a little wide, and I got up under him down the back straightaway.”
While the field shuffled behind him, Clifton kept on forging ahead – going on to take the checkered. “We’ve been pretty down on ourselves the last couple of years,” said a relieved Clifton. “I’ve won my share of races over here. You don’t try to rush it, you just take it
as it comes.”
In the Texas Steak & Tap House Sportsman Series, Derek Stoltz of Walkertown and John Holleman of Winston-Salem tangled for yet another week. They swapped the lead back and forth to the cheers of a capacity crowd. But in the end, it was Stoltz who grabbed the
checkered.
Defending Champion Tommy Neal of Walkertown returned after bad luck in last week to take the checkered in the second Sportsman race.
18-year-old female Rookie Amber Lynn of Walkertown grabbed her first ever Stadium win – Saturday’s 20-lapper for the Q104.1 New Country Street Stock Series.
In the Law Offices of John Barrow Stadium Stock Series, A.J. Sanders of Mocksville and Wesley Thompson of Advance each won a 15-lap race.
And in the special events for Saturday’s Crash Fest, Ronald Moser claimed a $2,000 bonus by winning both the 109 U-Pull-It Skid Race and the 109 U-Pull-It Demolition Derby.
