Tyler Truex fought off heavy competition to win the “Sportsman 50” lap race at Wall Stadium Speedway Saturday night. It was the third win of the year for the Mayetta resident and stretched his current point lead. Truex is a cousin to Monster Energy Cup standout Martin Truex, Jr.

After setting the fastest lap in time trial qualifying and picking the pole position in a blind draw Truex rocketed to the front at the outset with John McCormick of Farmingdale and Howell's Kevin Davison close behind. This trio battled through several restarts caused by minor incidents before Jarret DiGiantomasso of Jackson and Warren's Nick Shaw also joined the fight. McCormick's great run ended on lap 31 when he spun from contention but several others were there to challenge Truex to the finish.

At the checker Truex held on for the win over Davison, DiGiantomasso, Howell's Eric Lane and Shaw.

“Joining with sponsor Dover Contracting has really made a difference,” Truex said after earning two wins and a second place finish in the three races since the teaming. “You would think that they put a rocket engine in this car.”

Beachwood's Elliott Wohl swept both 25 races for the O'Shea's Auto Repair Factory Stocks. In the first feature he took the lead at the half way point before winning over Gerry Koenig of Seaford, N.Y., Union's Joey Helberg, Wall's Bryan O'Shea and Mike Montano of Fort Myers, Florida. In the second race Wohl slipped past Montano in the closing circuits with Koenig, O'Shea and John Bowers of Pt. Pleasant wrapping up the top five.

Howell's Robert French won his division leading 28th main event in the first of two 25-lappers for the Green Flag Driving Experience. Brian Spencer of Old Bridge, Nick Van Wickle of Edgewater Park, Joe McGrath and Kevin Nowak of Medford, N.Y. wrapped up the top five. Nowak came back to win the nightcap over Spencer, Van Wickle, Brick's Chris Gall and Anthony Colandro.

Jeffrey Loesch of Neptune City won his first ever Surfside Collision 4 Cylinder Stock 25-lapper after suffering through misfortune in several previous races. Wall's TJ Graves was the runner-up with Howell's Brian Osborn, Fred Cannock of Port Monmouth and Chris Silvestri rounding out the top five finishers.

Racing returns this Saturday night September 2 with the Freehold Ford Modifieds battling in “Twin 40' lap main events. The Factory Stocks, 4 Cylinder Stocks, Elite Maintenance Limited Late Models and the Legend Cars will all race in 25-lap features. Pit area will open at 1:00 p.m. with practice running from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Grandstands will open at 5:00 p.m. Qualifying starts at 5:45 p.m. and main event action starts at 7:00 p.m.
