R.J had his sons Confirmation in Westchester yesterday, so Paul qualified the car so RJ could come back and make the race. But RJ was in the car for the race, not Paul.

Paul who? Yeah, he ran a lap or 2. Thanks to 39 for the graciousness and intelligent choice. All had a good time. Time passes on for all...

Man I missed it! I never got to see Paul Mac race, but I know he's known throughout the Northeast. When I worked for the Racin' Paper, even they knew of him in NH.

Will Paul Mac return again?

Paul won a lot of big races up in NH. 11 in a row at one point. Will he back at some point? Well, it was six years since the last time, so ....

Paul won races at Hudson Speedway (N.H.)...When I picked up a trophy there, Track management thought I was his brother and made me show ID.

Well JA, you missed a good racer, used to pit across from him, he also had a real good crew, but the rubbin is racing slogan, that was Paul Mac, also. He also had a real cool Mustang body on the Late Model [I think that's the only one I have ever seen].

Sitting on jack stands, under the lawn furniture.

Yup- there may be lawn furniture on top of that car come to think of it. And now a little more interest in maybe taking a further look in there from what i hear today.

Paul McElearney was one of the greatest drivers I ever had a chance to compete with. The guy would move you out of the way so smoothly, you thought your car had a bad push.

What is Paul McElearney up to these days?

He won twice at Seekonk (MA) Speedway in their old Charger division, both incidentally extra-distance 50-lap races. October 10, 1982 with his own #98 and September 3, 1983.

The Commack, NY native has a pretty steep list of achievements on the Island.

-- 1980 Riverhead Grand Am champion
-- 5-time Islip Street Stock champion (1979-82, 1984)
-- Final Islip Street Stock feature winner (25 laps) (09/08/1984)
-- 3-time Riverhead Street Stock champion (1982, 1984-85)
-- 3-time Riverhead Late Model champion (1990-92)

If anyone has anything to add to that list of accomplishments, I would appreciate it.

P.S., to mcmmotorsports, I love the avatar. Firefox rules!

What are you gonna do? That's easy. Take the lawn furniture off the car, put air in the tires, and come on out for Old Timers Day on Sunday, run a few hot laps, and tell a lot of lies like the rest of us!!!

You arn't the only one. I've talked to him about it a bunch of times this year.He still has that look in his eye. His family dynamic just doesn't fit .Maybe next season.

RGee; when ya get as old as Mike and WJ are, you forget what the truth is and just make something up. Its not that your a liar its just that your old.

His nicest car was his old 65 Mustang street stock/novice car from Freeport/Islip days. It was as cool as cool gets, a real class act for sure.

Here are a couple photos from my archives of Paul McElearney during the 1998 season. If I remember correctly, he didn't run the entire season with this car. This car was rolled out late in the season and it didn't take him long to find victory lane.

That Mustang was almost unbeatable!!!! And he drove it one handed.

He has always driven one handed, no matter what he was driving.
