Who will it be this year?

With it being a time trial show figure on the half dozen or so that are capable of coming from the back to the front during a regular handicapped show. In no particular order, that would be:
00 Walkowiak
53 Arnold
22 Maliszewski
79 Wegmann
67 Okula

Add to that mix some cars that showed up randomly or late in the season but work well:
90 Langdon
72 Alt/Stock
16 Feola

However, if you are looking for just one, I'll take the 00.

Who will set fast time this year?
Seeing who ends up being the top six in time is sometimes just as interesting as seeing who finishes the race up front. There are (or at least there USED to be) a few guys who are great in traffic and can consistently run up front, but who don't time trial well. It's possible that a couple of cars that start towards the middle - or even near the back - will finish in the top five. Should be interesting, as usual, to see whose equipment holds up as well...50 laps is a lot of abuse on equipment that has been getting beat on for the whole season already. Should be interesting, too, to see if Pickerell got rid of the "Champion's Curse" for good last year - prior to his showing last year, no one who had won the championship fared very well in the 50-lapper after capturing the title.

BTW, Poet, it might be interesting to throw a few other "old" faces - such as Mark Tooker, Kim Moore and Bill Kipp (hee hee) - into your race. I think I'd like to add a few "newer" faces to the lineup as well, but it would take some careful consideration to fill a 25-car field.

Hey Tracy, I would LOVE to run 50 laps, you know anyone with a car for this Saturday? I like old Impala's, but a Caddy would do... maybe next year...(sigh...)

Hey Poet, You could come to FL and take my car for 50 lapper. You are more than welcome to it. Could you imagine a Skunk in a Malverty car? I think it could finish up front. Good luck to all.

Poet, there's going to be a tough qualifying field for your race. I'd also like to see both Feola's, both Mujsce's, and the late, great Ted "Papa Smurf" Zelezny. Richie Gersbeck, too, what ever happened to that crazy S.O.B.? :applause:

OK, Jones, I will also add Russ Savoy, Bill Wegmann, Al Warren, Tim Blank, Clarence Harris(?)...Eugene, thanks for the offer, let's see...If I leave for Florida this morning, drive through without stopping, and turn around and come right back, I might make it in time for time trials...oh well....

You couldn't add Mujsce without also adding "Jumpin'" Joey Lombardi...the rivalry between the two of them was memorable, to say the least!

Hey Poet, I think you should also extend invitations to Keith Baker, Todd Schelin, John Cozza, Peter Bertuccio...man, we're DEFINITELY going to need two consis by the time we're done adding names... I couldn't tell you when the last time was that the BB division saw 34 cars show up for a feature...must have been like 2001 or 2002!

As for qualifying, it would be just like it used to be...when there were 40+ cars each week and getting through the heats was the hardest part of the night! I seem to remember both Chris and Bobby running an occasional consi (one night in particular comes to mind in 2000 when Chris and Neal Jr. were both battling to be in the top five in points, and Chris just missed qualifying through the consi...back then, you were hard-pressed to find someone who would sell you their spot because somebody probably just qualified for their first feature all season since one of the "top" cars missed out). Those were the days...when almost as many cars went home as there were in the feature!

Guess I'm getting off-topic here...I'm still curious who everyone thinks will set fast time...and will they actually break the new track record that Pickerell set last year?

Answer to Tracy's question... who will put it on the pole? I'm going with the 00 (no new track record however)...also in the top 5, 22, 90, 4, 16...

For the fun of it, I went back to last year's 50-lapper to check out who the top six were...I have their repick order, but not their actual time order, so - in no particular order - they were: 4, 90, 00, 3, 22, 79. To the best of my knowledge, all six of them will be there again this time around...should be interesting to see how they fare this year. I, for one, think that there will be one or two different faces in the top six this year...but I'll just wait to see how it turns out.
