Pink, I could go on all day about wrestling. One of my favorite sports. (And don't tell me they're not athletes, you try jumping off of a 15' high cage, or suplexing a 500 lb. man). Boris Zhukov, Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat, Owen Hart (aka The Blue Blazer), Ted "Million Dollar Man" DiBiase, The Bushwhackers, "Cowboy" Bob Orton, George "The Animal" Steele, Bob "Hardcore" Holly, The Iron Sheik, Mr. Bob Backlund.....

I'm trying to figure out how this has to do with racing, as I'm confused... But if you guys want to talk about non-racing related off season fun, go ahead... I'll make a new forum for that if you want...

broz
09-27-2005, 10:47 AM
You're absolutelty right JA, nothing to do with racing. I think by looking at who has responded to this point, that it is at least worthy of being re-posted in another category.
Some of us were just trying to feel young again. :D
Now I do recall Paul "The Big Show/Giant" Wight be in "Stacker 2" commercials with Kenney Wallace. So does that count toward being "racing-related"?

You want a connection? When Bob "Hardcore" Holly first broke into what was then the World Wrestling Federation, he competed as "Sparky Plugg", an aspiring stock car driver-turned pro wrestler. There was wrestling at Riverhead Raceway (as in "real" wrestlers with a ring put out on the track) way back when. Vinny, you can't mention Ms. Elizabeth without mentioning Lex Luger (aka The Narcissist/Lex Express). How about "Classy" Freddy Blassie, the original "Nature Boy" Buddy Rogers, Pat Patterson, "Superstar" Billy Graham, "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes....

LongIslandJam
09-28-2005, 06:11 AM
Yes, wrestling does have a Riverhead connection... (and you thought it was only because it seems like a WWE event sometimes)...

One prime example is Mick Foley, aka Mankind, Cactus Jack, Dude Love, etc.

Mick wrestled at Riverhead and met his wife at the track. I read his auto-biography and he kept wrestling this racer Dombrowski... Eddie Dombrowski... Whoever this is.... ;)

It seems that there are a lot of people's (so called wrestlers) names that Jam members, visitors remember. All I remember is the green guy, incredible hulk...oops, that was not a so called wrestler/actor. Sorry I do not or never did sit /stand watching wrestling. The only thing I remember about wrestling is I gave my gym teacher a mat burn on the bridge of his nose and he had to wear a band aid for a week and I was proud to say I gave it to him. Also, for some reason CHYNA comes to mind? JA pointed out and I think he has a picture of the WWE? Whatever that is, building somewhere in? connecticut. and this is two pages of silly season stuff started by a guy (mayor) who has retired from the activities of the Jam as of 10:40 this evening?? GO FIGURE?? Have a nice time in retirement Mayor. Hey, the Jam is like potato chips you just can't have one, (post or reply or viewing). :applause:

Dan,
The Incredible Hulk was played by Lou Ferrigno but he is a body builder not a wrestler. So that's a whole other thread I guess.

The Iron Sheik is actually one of the nicest guys you could meet. Allhail and I met him last year at a show, along with other greats like Jimmy Snuka, Tito Santana, Mr. Fuji, and Lou Albano. The Sheik was holding up the autograph line, he made it a point of talking with every fan who was there. It was so funny to hear him repeatedly say "U.S.A. #1" in that thick accent.
