I’m not quite sure why the Mountain Site hasn’t been updated in some time, but in any case, here is the Mountain Madness from 9-25.

Mountain Madness from September 25th

There ya have it folks, we passed the final week of points (that is unless you don’t show for the 6th annual ‘King of the Mountain’). What a great afternoon of racing, but first, I just want to say thank you to all the folks who made this column (or at least the awards) possible for all the drivers: Valley Service Equipment Repair, J&J Contractors, Inc. and CAD Visers, Inc. Those of you who kept up with it, thanks! The one’s that didn’t…hey, that’s cool too. Thanks a bunch for your support!

This week isn’t about the top 5, let’s look a little ‘outside the box’ and see what was to be seen (does that make sense)? Follow along and check it out:

What seems to be the norm is that Brian Defebo claimed another win, his 10th of this season. However, he had his work cut out after starting 11th. Nice job by the Mountain master. Donny Hartzell had another strong run, along with that Preece character, Steven Reed and Tim Santee. Reed is still looking for that first win of the season and ya never know, this kid could be the King of the Mountain….Looking back to 7th. CJ Jones hasn’t run much at Mountain this season, but a strong effort earlier in the year, along with staying out of trouble, with what seemed to be a tough handling race car in the 20-car field, shows that he’s yet another who’s ‘On the Fast Track’ to success at Mountain Speedway..congratulations!

Larry Fisher cruised to yet another late model win, as well as his first Mountain championship, after 18 years of racing here! The look on his face in victory lane was unforgettable… It was a race that was filled with cautions and excitement, yet it was tough to see Joe Hoffman out after being involved in an early accident. Callavini seems to be back in driving form, and Ankner is back in shape as well. How about seeing Gary Fisher back behind the wheel? One driver who has been very fast was involved in three of the yellows, yet still hung on for a nice sixth place finish (and on the lead lap). Mike Coll, nice job and welcome to the fast track here at Mountain Speedway.

There’s just too much to say about the street stocks this season. The competition was phenomenal and it came down between the two-time champ and Jimmy Yamelski. Well, I hate to use the word drama (as in the past), but the dramatic finish to the season was well worth the cash the fans spent to witness the finale. Congrats to Yamelski on the championship. One spot does make a difference! One tough driver that Jim had to work around was Mike Odwazny (otherwise known as 2/10). Mike has had strong runs in recent weeks, but this 7th place finish puts him on the Fast Track to success at Mountain. After all, it wasn’t more than 14 months ago when Mike was in the championship hunt himself..welcome back!

Uncle Petey claims the thriller championship! Hey, there’s talk that this guy celebrated his born on date with a bunch of youngsters, too..Congrats & happy B-day Mr. Petey! The thrillers are always fun to watch and this past week was no different. Price strutted his stuff, but the behind the scenes stuff was impressive. Petey had the point lead over Howie Bott entering the day’s events. Engine problems (dropped valve or something??). In any case, Bott jumped right in and helped cure the #43…now that’s sportsmanship! With three heat wins, Marissa Nelmes has had a great season. However, lady luck hasn’t shined much on the latter portion resulting in a slew of DNF’s. Marissa’s 8th place finish might not be what she wanted, but the top 10 and turn around does put her back on the fast track!

Another division with plenty of great racing was the 4 cyl. Thrillers. Pete Verwys proved strong with yet another win, but the MVS champ (Mike Garris, Jr.) also deserves some credit for a great run. Joe Grocholski drove to a second place finish and his first title in his first year! Jimmy White, Dale Shoemaker and Joe Heintzelman all have strong runs to be proud of, but there’s that #42 that’s been running strong as well…Jamie Damon. With only a few weeks out on the track, the kid is showing that the team is more than capable of running up front. On your 7th place finish, welcome to the Fast Track Jamie!

Well, that’s about it folks. We’ll have one more of these things and call it quits for the off-season. We’ll figure something out for the upcoming ‘King of the Mountain’..who knows, maybe fast times at Mountain Speedway, LOL..or tough luck. Either way, stay tuned to www.mountainspeedway.com for more Mountain Madness.

Congrats to all the drivers who are ‘on the fast track’ to success at Mountain Speedway! You can pick up your awards at the photo booth after the drivers meeting on race day. See you soon at Mountain Speedway for more asphalt racing at its finest. Tune in next week for more ‘Mountain Madness’.
