The Yaphank Center Development Review Committee established by Legislator O’Leary resolution, has met twice. There are eleven members on the committee, two of which are residents. One appointed by Leg. O’Leary (Johan McConnell) and one appointed by Executive Levy (George Riegger of Moriches). The remaining members represent business, labor, the county and the town. We have just started the process of setting goals, establishing dates for public hearings, and visiting the site on August 11. The county has hired a private consulting firm to help with the Request for Proposal. There has been no decision made about how the property will be used. There is a long process before that will be determined; public hearings, recommendation from the committee, proposals from interested parties, selection of a proposal, review by the town, and finally, it will have to go before the County Legislators. Everyone on the committee agrees that careful planning is needed and the impact on the community and school district must be considered.

There will be three public meetings concerning the Yaphank County Center Property.

Monday November 14 Longwood High School 7-9PM.

The topics for discussion are; site overview, market analysis, and existing conditions of the property. The meeting will be divided into two parts. The first will be a large group discussion held in the auditorium, followed by small break-out groups, where community members can ask questions or fill-out comment cards. THIS MAY BE THE ONLY MEETING HELD IN YAPHANK. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR THE YAPHANK COMMUNITY TO ATTEND AND TO HAVE THEIR VOICES HEARD.

Monday November 21, Suffolk Community College, Selden 7-9PM

Topics planned for discussion are Design of the Property and Public input.

Wednesday November 30, Bellport High School 7-9PM.

Topics planned for discussion are presentation of Goals for the property and public input.

All members of the Yaphank Center Development Review Committee will be in attendance at all meetings.

PLEASE ATTEND ALL THE MEETINGS IF POSSIBLE. THE COMMUNITY MUST MAKE IT'S VOICE HEARD IF WE ARE TO HAVE A SAY ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS TO THIS PROPERTY.
