Sal Accardi Sr has passed on

Sal Accardi Sr. passed away at around 7:00 am this morning, Sal Jr. alerted me this morning that the serivce would take place either this Saturday or Sunday and be one day only. I'll never forget the smile Sal Sr. had on his face when he won his one and only NASCAR Modified feature in his #39 Vega at Riverhead Raceway. That smile perhaps was only outdone when Sal Jr. scored his first victory! Sal Accardi Sr. was first and foremost a gentleman. All of us at Riverhead Raceway send our prayers and thoughts to the Accardi family, RIP Sal.

Sal won his one and only race in 1986. It was the last race of the season. He drove the Mobile Trends Auto Parts, Accardi Automotive Transmissions #39 Cavalier modified to victory lane at Riverhead Raceway. The modified was formerly owned by Bobby Pearsall with the #87 on it. In the victory lane with Sal " Mr. Islip " it was Me, little Sal , Pat Ball , Laura ( Sal's Wife ) & Laura's sister ( cant remember her name.. sorry )
