In a word: ka-boom! Neither was that popular, and other 'family entertainment' shows were used to replace them.
How about that motorcycle demo?!?
Now THAT was......ridiculous. Nice try, though.
theres still train races...there just 600hp cars now:lol:
from what i remember they stopped the smash to pass figure eights because of the potential injury from collisions at the x since the drivers refused to stop or slow down for traffic, instead they usually just aimed for each other. the track tried mandating driver side door bars and thats when fewer people would enter. no clue why the train races ended. probaby due to low car counts. the one i miss is the backwards/forwards demo. wish they would try that again.
Yeah, backward-forward demos were the BEST!:applause:
They need to bring BACK the Train Races....wouldnt mind making a COMEBACK!:help::rolleyes:
They had backwards/forward demos at R'head? I heard of those at Freeport, but, again, never got to see one. The train races were great, especially before they got them figured out (chaining the cars together tightly) but I couldn't imagine the logistics of getting three cars to the track for someone who doesn't own a towing business or have a lot of friends with trailers that weren't racing that night!
I liked the train racing when they had them racing the oval, not the figure 8 course. They were more competitive on the oval and seemed to draw more numbers.
Oval was too easy.....figure 8 you get to "let 'em hang"...lol. We used to run the train race, unchain the cars, hook the brakes back up un the front car (put the pin back in the pedal), put the driveshaft back in the tail car, and run the stock 8's. Made for a LOOOOOONG enduro Sunday! Sat. nights were the best. Bill Denniston used to let us leave the trains at the track towards the end. Either way, they were fun to race.
Running the 8's was harder no doubt, but the oval made it more competitive. The 8's made it exciting for the fans to see if they were going to hit. I enjoyed the oval, we had closer racing!
