Wow. When I first drove a Figure 8, the first two cars to pass me were the 82 and the 49, The ones pictured in the avatar. Then of course the rest of the field passed as well. But seeing them together brings back memories.
"A View from theCrossroads" available at www.pkbooksinc.com, www.amazon.com and www.barnesandnoble.com. Look for "A View from the Crossroads" due out in August.
I hope I remember this right. Back when Chris first ran the 49 he painted in white "dunlop" on the tires. He also ran a one barrel on it for the heats on the oval and the two barrel for the feature on the 8, and I think he won every heat one year.
Rick
you can't really tell by the picture , but the 49 has a 2barrel, and the tires do have dunlop in white.

Rick I remember that. It seemed whatever Chris Young did, others were to follow. With the open tire rule everyone ran something different. Then Chris showed up with Dunlop stenciled on his tires.
Neil Feola had the car at one time and I bought 4 tires and 4 rims. The Dunlop wore off and I believe they were Hoosier recaps.
And yes he won every heat race. I believe it was 1979.

Are you bringing the 49 car to Riverhead tonight?
no I was going to bring Ernie's car. But once again that show has been postponed. I'm just looking for a reason to bring one of the cars out, both if I could.
