FORMAT ANNOUNCED FOR MILLER LITE NASCAR WHELEN MODIFIED
FLASH TOUR STOP AT RIVERHEAD RACEWAY AUGUST 4TH

The qualifying format for the first ever NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour “Flash” event at Riverhead Raceway was announced today by WMT director Ed Cox in conjunction with Barbara and Jim Cromarty of Riverhead Raceway. As they have since 1985, Miller Lite will serve as title sponsor for this unique race that is sure to be a hit with the fans in attendance.
The Riverhead stop is the third and final “Flash” event of the 2007 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.
Qualifying will find 20% of the cars entered to qualify through time trials, for example if 40 cars enter then 8 would transfer through time. The cars that make the show through time would then later redraw for their staring positions in the main event. Two 25-lap qualifying races will then be run, with odd number cars from time trials in one qualifying race, while the those who qualify in an even number going to the second qualifying race. How many cars make the feature from the heats will be announced when the prior to the qualifying races.
The remainder of the 28-car field would be filled out by provisional starting positions as noted on the WMT entry blank.
After all the qualifying has been completed it will then be time for the Miller Lite 140-lap feature event for the cars and stars of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and the Riverhead Raceway drivers who make the 28-car starting grid.
It’s a great format with something for everyone, so make your plans now to head to Riverhead Raceway Saturday August 4th for this historical race. Joining the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will be the Charger and Blunderbust divisions, who will run 30-lap feature events with double points. One-On-Spectator Drags will complete the program.

I like the format BUT would prefer 35 lap heats as I think 25 is going to be a wreckfest at Riverhead.....

I love it. I'm speaking strictly as a fan here. The time trials I could still do without, but in my mind I think it may keep the car count up. A good, solid field of quality Modifieds has always been the most important ingredient for any event in my opinion. The heats should be wild and that should be good for the fans- if the drivers can keep the wheels on the cars! Lets hope the Tour drivers show us just how good they can really be (let's not recreate the Wall heats!). I especially like the longer feature. As a traveling fan, I like the longer features - I need to see some laps to make my trip worthwhile. I think this might be the best tweak possible for the bull rings. It's gonna be three competitive races for the Mods!

That may be the press release, but the entry blanks have not yet been mailed. Not much different than the last flash race. We will need to see where the cautions count and where they dont.

its an additional 40 laps on the feature. thats the slight change. Yes, I want to find out about cautions myself. I could live with a copy of TSS on this matter with the 1st 1/2 of the race counting only green flag laps, and the 2nd half counting both. But for the Love of Modified Racing, please no cautions that are unnecessary, and please keep each caution period to a minimum. We've had some 10-15 lap caution periods at Riverhead, and man that just eats away at the racing and the entertainment value. Maybe just count the 1st 5 laps of each caution in the 2nd half would be good. That way the important part of the race doesn't get whittled down unnecessarily.

Another key to the cautions at Riverhead is the speed of the pace car under caution. If that is dropped about 10 mph from where he paces the past couple of races, I believe that would cut down on the amount of laps wasted under caution

The problem with slowing down the pace car at Riverhead is that if it isn't going a certain speed, the field can't run a consistent pace lap. What i mean by that is the pace car catches the tail end and stops, the then everybody stops eventually it looks kinda like a big wave. Hard to describe.

no mention of caution laps counting when or where. top 5 make $100 each more than Twin States because they are starting 2 less cars.
