"AAA member" race tracks vs "Non-AAA member" race tracks.

Because of "AAA membership" rules, "AAA member" race drivers had to raced at "AAA member" race tracks.

Sometimes race drivers would changed their real name to a fake name or worn an ski mask to hide their identity, to raced at "Non-AAA member" race tracks.

#1. Does anyone know of race drivers ( "AAA member" or "Non-AAA member" ), that changed their real name to an fake name or put on ski mask to hide their identity to raced at other race tracks?

#2. Does anyone know what happened to the "AAA member" race drivers that was caught racing at "Non - member" race tracks?

To answer question #1 there were many who changed names. To name a few - Eddie Sachs raced as Pam Wheeler, Chuck Weyant as Abe Lincoln, Van Johnson competed as Boldegard Hunt-Schmidt, and both Cal Niday and Andy Linden used the alias Herman Puller. Most drivers used an alias either occasionally or raced regularly at a certain track under an assumed name. To answer question #2 the penalties were severe. Usually a banishment from AAA races for anywhere from a year to lifetime. If you were allowed back a heavy fine usually needed to be paid first. Remember, there was no NASCAR. AAA was THE sanctioning body. You played by their rules or there was "No soup for you."

Racing under different names, NASCAR Era

Most racing historians are aware of Bruno Brackey's alias at NASCAR tracks. At Jersey City and Weissglass Stadium under NASCAR Sanction he was Johnny Frank (His two brothers names) and at Freeport ,the Polo Grounds and Dexter Park he was Bruno Brackey. He was caught and was banned for life from NASCAR but was allowed back in some 25 years later.

One interesting case is that of David Haupt of Conshohocken, Pa. He raced sprint cars with URC and elsewhere in the 50's as "Dave Allison". He switched to modifieds in the 60's and competed as "Joe Kelly". Long Island's own Johnny Coy was really John Barbaro. While many used an alias to avoid detection by either AAA or NASCAR many more did so to avoid tax obligations on their winnings.
