Sorry but no deal. It had to do with trucking dirt for the people who wanted to build a NASCAR track on Staten Island that fell apart. The media outlets reworded it to sound like NASCAR was involved.

    Thanks for the infor.

Remember the Teamsters trying to unionized NASCAR!!
Remember Curtis Turner and Tim Flock was banned from racing because of it!!

#1. How come Richard Petty and some other race drivers, who had their photo taken with a " Professional Drivers Association " Union race patch sew on their race uniform, didn't get banned by NASCAR??

#2. Was the "PDA" Union and "Teamsters Union" trying to unionized NASCAR, (same deal or different deal)??

#3. Know what year or years this happened??

1961 = Teamsters Union + Tim Flock + Curtis Turner tried to unionized NASCAR = banned

1969 = 54 races = some races less than $1,000 Dollars to winner = $15,000 Dollars max. race driver insurance coverage = PDA union forming.
In Sept. of 1969, PDA was formed and Richard Petty was named PDA President.
2 weeks later at Talladega with PDA staged an driver boycott because of race tire safety issue and tried to cancelled the race.
Most of well known drivers didn't raced, but race took place with 36 lesser known drivers and 36 race cars some from other NASCAR Grand American racing divisions.
60,000 Spectators watched Richard Brickhouse win his first and only NASCAR Stock Car race.
2 weeks later, all track owners got together with NASCAR and started an bigger purse plan for future race winners and NASCAR Champions.
PDA union was killed and NASCAR didn't messed with drivers involved with it.
Note: This driver boycott helped an 23 -year old Grand American car owner-driver named Richard Childress, raced Saturday and Sunday at Talladega and won more than $12,000 dollars.
Richard Childress took the money bought the land and built his race shop into what is now RCR racing empire.
