Mahoning Valley Speedway has cancelled the Saturday night, May 3 racing events due to weather.
With a shroud of dampness and thick clouds that hovered over the Lehighton and surrounding area throughout the morning and with the National Weather Service calling for rain starting later in the evening, race track officials felt it would be in the best interest to both fans and teams to cancel.
A wise choice indeed as the headline event was to be the $3000 to win Spring Fling Modified 100. Also on the card was the Pro4 40 as well as regular features for the Street Stocks, Factory Stocks and 4-Cylinder Stocks.
After three very solid weeks of racing, this was the first rainout of the 2008 season.
The focus now turns to next Saturday night, May 10, which will be Mother’s Day weekend and keeping in tune with that the ladies will get the opportunity to do some driving of their own.
Women on Wheels will be part of the program which will also feature the Modifieds, Late Models, Street Stocks, Pro4 Late Models, Factory Stocks, 4-Cylinder Stocks and the 4C Super Modifieds.
Pits and grandstands open at 4:00 pm. The first heat will take place at 6:00. Adult grandstand admission is $14. Students, seniors 65 and up and active military are $12. Kids 10 and under are free.
Mahoning Valley Speedway is located just west of Lehighton on PA Route 443, a short distance from the northeast extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
