Rob McCormick and Ken Harper Climb to Mountain Madness Victories at Sundance

St. Johns, Pa- Perfect track conditions set the stage for Round No. 6 of the Mountain Madness Enduro Series Sunday at Sundance Vacations Speedway. Rob McCormick of Long Island battled with TJ Kapish throughout the 6/8-cylinder event and ended up taking the convincing victory. Ken Harper of Coatsville mounted a late race charge on Sam Ryan over the closing laps and went on to take his second straight win in the 4-cylinder division.

Rob McCormick started from the pole and led the field to the drop of the green flag in the 100-lap 6/8-cylinder enduro. Mike Parisi held the second spot with Bill Schwenk, TJ Kapish and Greg Harris in tow.

Kapish wasted no time advancing and grabbed third on the second circuit. He then scooted by Parisi for second on the following lap.

The top five ran in a very tight pack in the early going and Kapish glued himself to the rear bumper of the leader. Kapish attempted to make a pass for the lead on lap 20 and it paid off, dropping McCormick back to second. Schwenk still held third, followed by Parisi and Harris.

The red flag flew on lap 37 when Frank Katona spun in turn two and faced oncoming traffic. Green flag racing resumed and McCormick regained the race lead.

McCormick opened up almost a straightaway advantage over Kapish and went on to take the win. Kapish was forced to settle for second, followed by Harris, Katona and Schwenk.

Bill Rice led the 4-cylinder field to the drop of the green flag for the start of the 100-lap enduro and led the opening circuit over John Crosby, Tom Hartman, Sam Ryan and Ryan Woodring.

Ryan quickly climbed to the second spot and it didn’t take long for Tony Rispin to crack the top five.

Ryan caught Rice and overtook him for the lead on lap 7. Four laps later Rispin got by Rice for the runner up spot. Still early into the event, Mark Foreman cracked the top five.

Ken Harper started in the 19th position, climbed into the top five and then battled with Foreman for the third spot on lap 33. Harper made the pass and then caught Rispin to take over the second spot.

Ryan maintained a pretty substantial lead at the halfway point in the event over Harper, Rispin, Foreman and Rice. Ever so slightly, the second place driver began to reel in the leader.

Harper caught the leader and used a lapped car as a pick to take the lead with eight laps remaining. He continued on to take the checkered flag for his second straight win over Ryan, Foreman, Rispin and last place starter, Mike Harding.

Apperently the trucks get to run under Riverhead truck rules, but the cars have to abide by MMES 6/8 rules.

Good thing the long island trucks showed up or it would have been a 12 car field.
