Lightbulb Testing a asphalt modified on dirt!

The owner of 311 Speedway is attempting this concept of letting the BGS modifieds run on dirt. Robbie Brewer tested his car last night. Think it could be done with the Tour Mods? If the trucks can do it at Eldora, why can't we?

    It's an interesting concept.
Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, NY had a press release about a year and half ago that they were going to test a Northern Asphalt Tour Modified on their 5/8th mile clay track with a possible NASCAR Tour race this year. After that news, never heard of an actual test or anything else on it.

Interesting indeed. 311 has been struggling for a few years, so they are doing anything they can to get fans, and I applaud them for that. Bowman Gray shuts down at the end of August, and lots of the modifieds go on jack stands, so they hope to get something going for September. Could be fun to watch. IMCA mods ran there some years back and were fun for me to watch, but the regular fans never accepted them, as this is late model territory. Hopefully they could enjoy these a time or two.

And with all good stories, there are the rumors: a man told me yesterday the modified that tested was faster than the dirt super late models that run there on occasion. In reality, it was more than 3 seconds slower. That is not bad for the first time out, but funny how these stories get started.

    Pulled from another site:

    "SEPTEMBER 21 2013
ALL GATES OPEN AT 4 PM

    Madhouse Modified on Dirt

Racefans its been 40 plus years since a Modified has ran at the Daytona of Dirt. This race was won by Johnny Bryant. Once again 311 is bringing them back. We will be paying $2,500.00 to win this event. Tire Rule will be the American Racer Chainlink SD-48 costing $138.00 per tire. with up to 15 wide wheel. Sportsman and Lmsc Tire Rule will be Towel City Retread costing $88.00 per tire. Cars from Caraway, Ace, BGS and other tracks throughout the nation can be part of this. We will use the BGS Modified rules with the exception of the tire rule. We will have more details on the other classes running, hopefully Sportsman and Lmsc cars will be part of this. If this race does good it may be ran again in conjunction with Martinsville Race weekend. Making this apart of history, its where racing started. More info call 336-413-0744 Mike or call 33-427-2787 track phone and just leave a message."

On 9/21/13, there is a Southern Mod tour race at Southern National. Makes no sense to schedule this race against the tour race, as you just eliminated 20 of the possible 25 cars that run at the stadium regularly. I would rethink the date if I were promoting. As a side note, it's pretty bad that an asphalt-mod-on-dirt race will pay more to win than the NASCAR tour race at Southern National!
