This Saturday will mark the halfway point for the 2017 racing season at Bowman Gray Stadium. The points leaders are fighting hard to keep their spot atop the rankings – and now, the real hard
work starts.
Burt Myers of Walnut Cove managed to finish third and seventh in last Saturday’s twin 25s for the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series. Points contender Tim Brown of Tobaccoville finished right ahead of Myers in the first race but
right behind him in the second race. Brown was able to earn two points more than Myers to cut Myers’s lead from twelve down to ten. But Brown still has some ground to make up during the second half of the season.
Taylor Branch of Lewisville had some tough luck in the Texas Steak & Tap House Sportsman Series. Although he finished an impressive second in the first race, Lady Luck wasn’t so kind in the second race. As John Holleman of
Winston-Salem and Dylan Ward of Winston-Salem battled for the lead, Ward went careening into the guard rail. The damaged car of Ward was unable to steer properly – causing Ward to head straight into Branch’s car. The #86 of Branch
nailed the guard rail and went off on a wrecker, finishing 14th and dropping Branch from second in the points down to third.
Tommy Neal of Walkertown moves up to take over second in Branch’s absence. But Neal didn’t gain any traction on the points lead – he earned the exact same amount of points as top-ranked Derek Stoltz of Walkertown. Stoltz is
still out front with the lead.
Amber Lynn of Walkertown proved that she’s not one to race conservatively in the Q104.1 New Country Street Stock Series. When Lynn was running second, she didn’t let her points lead restrain her aggressiveness. She bumped Jake
Creed of Dobson out of the way to take the win, strengthening her points position.
And in the Law Offices of John Barrow Stadium Stock Series, Chase Hunt of Lexington claimed victory in the “big one” for the Stadium Stock cars – the Winston-Salem Journal Stadium Stock 50. Second-ranked Wesley Thompson
finished seventh, losing a few valuable points to Hunt.
Be sure that you’re at the Madhouse this Saturday night when the points battles roll on for all divisions. The Modifieds compete in twin 50s with the double-file restart cone – and a special pickup truck side-wheelie stunt is
on the agenda as well.
Gates open at 6:00 for practice, and the first race begins at 8:00 PM – this Saturday night. Ticket prices, directions, and more information can be found online at www.bowmangrayracing.com or by calling (336) 723-1819.
