Patnode claims Sportsman Modified Victory after Post Race Inspection


This past Saturday, Monadnock held their annual track party and Heroes of Yester-Year celebration where the fans met the stars of the speedway past and present. The fans were also treated to a full night of racing action from all the weekly Whelen NASCAR All American divisions along with the Young Guns, Lightning Stocks and New England Antique Racers. Winners included; Todd Patnode being credited the win after a post-race inspection, Rookie Eric Pomasko in the Super Stocks, Pat Houle repeated in the Mini Stocks along with Jason Kozacka in the Thunder Stocks and Cale Skillings in the Young Guns. Matt Gauffin took down the win for the Lightning Stocks.
The Young Guns rolled onto the track for their fifteen-lap main event as Chloe Wright brought the field to the green. Bella Minchella ran third and looked to make the pass on Sammy Silva until lap four when she bumped Silva causing him to spin. On the restart, Cale Skillings started to pick up ground as Mariah Stebbins followed. Lap five, Skillings led the way followed by Stebbins as Wright ran third. Lap ten, Wright spun giving Zachary Morse the third spot. At the checkered flag, it was Skillings, Stebbins, Morse, Chris Phelps and Sammy Silva.
Twenty-Two Lightning Stocks were led out by polesitter Eric Silvernale with Alex Barden on the outside. At the green, Silvernale fought an early battle with Steve Fucile as Barden dropped back to third. Lap four, Fucile was the new leader with Hillary Renaud and Zachary Lyn knocked at his door. Lap eight, Fucile lost his lead to Lyn and was shuffled back to fourth as Matt Gauffin and Hillary Renaud ran wheel to wheel for second. Lyn began to extend his lead as the top runners carefully maneuvered through lap traffic. Lap fourteen, the leader of Lyn suffered mechanical problems ending his night for a chance for victory. On the restart, Gauffin inherited the lead and was challenged by visiting competitor Jon Fultz for the lead. On lap twenty-five, Gauffin celebrated the win followed by Fultz, Renaud, Fucile and Silvernale.
The Mini Stocks were on tap next with eighteen competitors vying for the victory. Louis Maher took the lead early from Devin Guy as Desmond Skillings followed in third. Lap five, Maher continued to lead as Pat Houle took over third from Skillings. Rookie Devin Guy held his own running in second. Maher led the pack as Skilling worked on Houle to gain back his third spot. On lap fourteen, a caution came out with the leader involved giving Houle the lead on the fifteen-lap restart, Rookie Devin Guy made his way into the pits ending his strong run. On the restart, Skillings ran second as Kevin McKnight moved into the third spot. Lap twenty-one would see another restart as Greg Millette worked over McKnight for third. At the checkered flag finish, Houle hung onto the top spot claiming his second victory followed by Skillings, McKnight, Maher and Millette.
The Super Stocks were led out by Rookies Mike McGoldrick and Eric Pomasko for their twenty-five lap main event. At the start of the race, a caution quickly flew. On the restart, Pomasko took over the top spot with Leary looking to take over the lead. Within laps, Leary felt the pressure from Joel Monahan for second while Pomasko used the opportunity and took advantage to pull away. Leary and Monahan fought each other hard swapping positions as Alex Poisson and Craig Smith began their own battle for fourth. Six laps to go, the challenge with Monahan and Leary ended as Leary made contact with Monahan resulting in both restarting at the rear of the field. On the restart, the Rookie Pomasko held off Smith as Justin Littlewood put pressure on Poisson for third. On the last lap and final turn, Pomakso saw the checkers followed by Smith. Littlewood vying for third made contact with Poisson out of turn four causing him to spin and collecting the fifth place runner of Scott Beck. Littlewood was penalized as sixth place runner crossing the finish line of Monahan was awarded third place.
The roar of the Thunder Stock came out next as Michelle Leh broughtthe field to the green in caution free feature. On lap one, Kozacka took over the lead as Leh was shuffled back to fifth. Richard Vincent and Craig Chaffee battled for second. Chaffee lost ground as last year’s champion of Nowakowski moved into third. Matt Robinson and Chaffee challenged each other for fourth. The top runners began to work through lap traffic as Vincent attempted to catch Kozacka for the lead while holding off Nowakowski. As the checkered flag waved, Kozacka collected his second win as Vincent, Nowakowski, Robinson and Chaffee followed for the top five.
The NASCAR Whelen All American Series feature division of the Sportsman Modifieds rolled onto the track with twenty competitors strong. Rookies Paul Smith and Cole Littlewood led the field to the green where Littlewood quickly took the lead, Smith dropped back to third. Todd Patnode ran in second. Lap five, Littlewood continued to show the way as Cameron Sontag and Rookie Joel Monahan fought for third. Monahan made the pass as Sontag dealt with Brian Robie for the fourth spot. The rookie of Littlewood began to pull away from the field as Patnode comfortably ran second. Rookie Matt Kimball attempted to break the top five chasing down Sontag. As laps winded down, Patnode gave all he could to run down the leader of Littlewood as the top runners weaved in and out of lap traffic. On the final lap, it was Littlewood with the checkers followed by Patnode, Monahan, Robie and Sontag. In a post race inspection, Littlewood was penalized to last place for a rules infraction giving the victory to Patnode.

This Saturday, Monadnock Speedway will hold their traditional Firecracker 125 featuring the return of the Modified Touring Series for 125 laps plus all the weekly divisions. At the conclusion of the event, Atlas Pyrotechnics will light up the night sky with fireworks rated the best display in the region. Racing will start at 5PM.
