    Islip Speedway plaque

When you head south on Islip avenue, you will see a memorial plaque on the right hand side of the road. I never stopped to read it, but it turns my stomach that the town of Islip can dedicate a stupid sign to remember perhaps the greatest speedway on Long Island. I was only 18 when it closed, but I do remember a constant battle with the town and residents about the noise. I believe there was a 10 year plan to close the speedway, but it was closed about 2-3 years after that deal was completed. Now that it is history, we have a plaque to remember it.

I guess the point of this post is that no matter how bad you think things are at Riverhead, it sure beats a plaque on Rt. 58.
