    Nice job by Donny Lia

Want to take the time to congratulate you, Donny, on a great & masterful run. Staying out in front with the guys you had directly behind you was one whale of a job, you deserved that one and as I told you later in the pit area, "keep Jerry with you-he's a lucky charm".
I also want to congratulate Bill Park, Howie Brodie & Jimmy Blewett for being the top three Riverhead regular finishers-a nicer trio of guys to give a little extra to was a pleasure.

Hey why did Donny only run one lap in Qualfying? Was that planned or did he think he got the checkered?

I spoke to Donny about time, he is so used to starting down in turn 1 that when he came out of 3 he thought that was the green flag lap, so when he got the white' he thought it was actually over, he was very upset about that but I'm pretty sure he got over it...Also want to give a call to John Fortin, he qualified great and raced real well with the tour boys until the shifter linkage broke, he had a top 5 car...

One heck of a race by #18, congratulations Donny... would have liked to have seen how Fortin would have fared had it not been for the mechanical issue. Way to represent the home track, boys!

I know I haven't been out to the track much... the 200 was my first tour race in almost 3 years, but I think I watched a different race then the rest of you.
I know in racing it is often times better to be lucky then good, and that is what happened this past Saturday. Lia was much more lucky then good.
I am sure I am wrong, but it didn't look like he passed a single car, or at least passed a car that mattered during the course of the event.
The race I saw had Lia getting a very lucky break when Fortin broke, taking Brode out of serious contention for the race, then Beers and TC, the only other cars that looked really fast, and could pass in traffic, both had bad luck/brain fade. If the cautions that had been flying so often early in the race had happened in the middle, I really think it would have been Beers race. His car was fast, and with the exception of a few cars, he was able to work traffic.
Lia was not good in traffic at all, if the guys behind him hadn't been such a bunch of "pointer sisters", he never would have gotten that win (and then to complain about the WMT starter not using the "move-over" flag was a joke, although the starter was not so good, that is for another thread). I mean, did you see how slow the pace of the race got when Lia hit traffic? So that is how I saw the race, but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

    Thumbs up

I give a big thumbs up to that #48, Tony was very professional driving behind the 18, where a few other drivers, not naming anyone, would have punted/dumped or wrecked him, no doubt, for the win.

btgoss, when you are the lead car, you do not need to pass any cars. There was a suggestion passed down to the drivers from NASCAR to use patience. Donny was being very patient. It is not nessessary to win the race on the first lap, it's the 200th lap that counts. If the cowboys all want to wreck themselves early, don't blame Donnie for staying clear of them. Also, burning up your tires to lead early in the race gains you nothing, because when "show time" comes at the end of the race, there will be no rubber to race with. As far as the move over flag and the starter is concerned, he did as the Tour rules called for. The move over flag is given only to cars that are already a lap or more down. If a car is fighting to stay on the lead lap the flag is NOT given. I can't say I agree with this, but that is the rule. Bottom line is simple, Donnie was there at the end and won the race and he did it cleanly. What more can you ask for?

310 your right, and I should have been more specific in my post. From the race I saw, Lia was not just being patient, he was being tentative. While that might not be a bad idea at a bull-ring like Riverhead, I think it would have cost him the race had the guys behind him been Beers and TC. He drove just hard enough to win, maybe I am now officially an old fart, but that is not typically how the greats of the modified division normally ran. But since the tour is now "The Best of Who's Left" and no longer the "Best of the Best" I guess he did what he had to do.

So I congratulate him on the win, but it wasn't a hard fought win, he basically coasted to the win. Didn't work traffic well at all, and got a huge break that the guys behind him seemed to want to escape Riverhead with a top 5 and call it a night. But a win is still a win. He still gets the check, so that is all that counts.

As for the "move over" flag. I thought that was the case, but right before Lia passed TC, he was given the "move over" flag. Now at that point TC was not a lap down, but was the last car on the lead lap, and should not have gotten the flag. I think his car was done at that point, so he should have moved over anyway, but he should not have gotten the flag. I was a bit confused about Brode getting the flag, since I thought he was faster then the cars behind him, but he was a lap down, so at least that was following the rules.

I guess I had hoped for a better race. This was my first tour race in years, having spent all of last summer in the hospital undergoing chemotherapy. I guess I had expected more, having seen some really good tour races at Riverhead in the past.

    Thumbs up Wj Donny

Donny congrats on the hometown hero win!!
WJ I disagree with you 100% when you stated ....

    it's all about tires
    does "all" mean 100%????

OH I also disagree with you 100% when you stated ...(the only way to win, survive ?) even if you have no tires left you still can win ??huh ?
The only way to survive and win is to hit the set up right, and tire management
So if i disagree with you 100% IN 2 DIFFERENT AREAS is that 200% disagreement or 100%?

    Have a nice day

BTGOSS it is great to see you online and hear from ya ...chin up buddy

Remember Dan's philosophy towards weight loss...

    You need:
    33% air
    33% water
    33% food

    Where's the other 1%??? I think Dan's playing games with numbers .
