    Exclamation Important Hurr. Katrina Info.

After speaking with a few agencies I have acquired VERY helpful information. At this point in time it is suggested to NOT do any collections of food, water, clothing or any other items one would think of. Due to the catastrophy there is not a storage place for all of these donated things, therefore, any items attempted to be given for distribution will be rejected. Do be concerned in the event that you are participating with any local supermarkets or radio stations who are collecting donations. These items will most likely NOT be distributed to people that have been effected by the Hurricane. Due to the extent of this disaster, the only type of donation that is being accepted is monetary. I have enclosed a list of Names and Phone numbers that are accepting monetary donations. This list was obtained from FEMA (Department of Homeland Security). At my work, they are making donations for education purposes, due to all of the schools in that area that are closed and will not be conducting classes. I have an address for that charity, but before posting that information I need to receive clearance, as that is a specific federal employee fund. **More info will follow as I obtain it.

I think NEETS will do the Red Cross thing...I have seen them in action many times before at flood disasters and believe me...they are great.
I myself was in the Agnes flood of '72 and the Red Cross was everywhere helping with food...clothing...helping people find a place to live....emergency money. I volunteered as a Red Cross driver taking elderly persons to shelters.
They are all dedicated people wanting to help.

Billy, that is actually where I maintained most of the information. Joyce from the Hazelton Red Cross was the one who most recently contacted me after I had called a few of the chapters in the area (some people just do not answer their phones or return phone calls). They appreciate all the offers, evidently people have already come by with stuff to donate and they were turned away, I was kind of upset to hear this, until she explained to me about down south no places to hold the storage or even set up base to distribute the stuff. The only additional info that I obtained was that a donation can be made directly to them in the local office, or done via telephone from the national number which is located in the list.

That was our biggest concern, getting the stuff in there with the roads, etc. Thanks for the info.
