    The Flying Dutchman

Fred Harbach would have been 68 today (please correct me if I'm wrong on the age), Happy Birthday in Heaven, Fred. Anyone have any good, fun, Flying Dutchman stories, post them. This guy was truly a character and a great racecar driver, we miss you Freddy.

Fred was a true gentleman, class person and a great race car driver.

The fact that he retired as a champion was very fitting for Fred.

Flyin' or Flying, don't matter much. The fact is, he flew around that old "bull ring" at the Head as fast as anyone and was a GREAT Champion!
Another one of the greats that my Dad ALWAYS spoke fondly of.
Happy Birthday up there and thanks for lettin' me sit in your car when I was a wee lad.

The autographed cards I have in my album list Fred's birthday as 10-18-36. I still have a Christmas card he sent me in '92, and a personal letter he had written me in '93. That '92 title chase, with him and Brian Miller going down to the last lap of the last race, legendary. What a friendly guy, too. Happy birthday.

Hey Jones, how about Fred making it a point for you to get the very first matchbox "X90" car from the carton? Remember how he brought you into the trailer telling you, "I have a surprise for you; you get the very first one"? A true classy guy, both on & off the track.

Sorry Rabbid, I've seen it on his cars as "flyin' " and "flying". It was a good thing for you to point out in a post like this though.

Think you're right about Islip. Don't think the flagman's stand was ever that low at Riverhead. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong?

What memorys. If my memory serves me correctly, still a little dizzy from hitting that wall at Riverhead so often, lol, that's definitely Islip. I've got to dig up some pictures I've got of my dad.

So sorry, but I have too. WJ, if that is the month of May, the "m" should be a capital, OR, it may need to have a "be" attached, OR, maybe something totally different??? LOL... And yeah, I know, you do this purposely to play with us!!!
