Annual Old-Timers Reunion This Coming Sunday

Don't forget this coming Sunday (August 27) is the annual Long Island Old Timers Reunion in the pits at Riverhead Raceway. As usual, there are expected to be many classic race cars, including the newly restored Wilsberg #5, driven by Greg 'Superman' Sacks and Chargin' Charlie Jarzombek. Along with the classic cars are the drivers coming in from all over the country that drove them.

It all starts at 10:00am. For all of the drivers coming out, don't forget to bring your scrapbooks, your copy of "Long Ride On A Short Track", and a Sharpie. There won't be any Go-Karts this year, and the cars are expected to have a lot of track time.

For more information, call Marty Himes at the Himes Museum of Motor Racing Nostalgia at (631) 666-4912.

Cars will be allowed to drive around the track and do a few laps (like an exhibition).

Didn't somone wreck a car at the old timers day a few years ago?

I seem to recall that happening...

I have been looking forward to this day all year, going to bring my son out to show him some "real" racecars. Shame the karts won't be there...

So this is pretty much looking like my 3 year olds dream day out...
Racecars and trucks... now if you could get the Wiggles or Laurie Berkner to play, then we could have our own Toddler-palooza...

While I have never had the opportunity to attend, this event is always one that I've enjoyed seeing pics from. I am a huge nostalgia/history buff so I always enjoy the privilege of hearing from the legends who built this sport . Please don't miss this greast event. All kinds of racing history abound at 'The Head' this weekend.

We had the NEAR cars at Waterford on Wednesday and that was very enjoyable to have the old coupes and pintos going around the Speedbowl once again.
